Chinese Knock Off Trump Resort, Building “Fart Casino and Hotel”
At a time when the leader of the tree world is already escalating tensions with China over North Korea’s nuclear aspirations, the last thing we want to throw on the Orange One’s burning toupée of anger is news of further misunderstanding between East and West–but that’s sadly what we’re here for today.
News has come from Pi Bai Ji Bing Resorts that initial plans for the “Fart Casino and Hotel” have been approved by the company’s board of directors. Ground was broken in Qinhuangdao of the Hebei province last Tuesday, marking the start of a three-year construction period for the project.
The odd name seems to stem from a mistranslation of the source material, a common source of consternation and humor in conducting international business with China. In some versions of British English, particularly the Yorkshire dialect, “to trump” is a supposedly crass slang term for expelling gas from the anus. (As if there’s any term that can hold a candle to the formal definition.) A recent rash of gleeful searches for “Trump means fart” seems to have pushed this particular definition further up in search engine results, firewall be damned. Lesson learned: Always hire a professional translator.
With a staid serif font perched atop mockups of the luxury resort, there’s no denying the inspiration here. It’s Trump from head to toe. Hoping to capitalize on the height of the craze over the zany head of state’s lamentably public charades, Pi Bai Ji Bing is expediting the construction phase, aiming for completion soon before the US next holds its presidential election. Some experts believe the company is hoping to pass the resort off as the real deal, though it’s tough to imagine that flying well. A few have even wondered aloud whether it wasn’t an intentional bit of tongue-in-cheek showmanship. We wouldn’t hold it against them.
The gaffe will no doubt soon be corrected, but in the meantime, stay tuned to our fearless leader’s stream of consciousness. He’s sure to catch wind of it–no pun intended–and lay out his thoughts in a calm, rational manner.
